Radio Kurtodrome 23
We're well aware that this is actually the 24th edition of Radio Kurtodrome, but n°22 is officially lost in cyberspace, so we'll pretend it never existed. Except for the three artists we remember having played three weeks ago: Smog, Julie Doiron and Cat Power. Smog seems to be lost in cyberspace too: we sure can't find his song "I break horses" anymore, but the other two artists are featured again on this edition. Officially our 23rd show. The downloadable tracks are, as always, marked with a 'D' is for downloadable. Enjoy the show!
PITCHTUNER - I Believe
On the German label Doxa Records the German-Japanese Pitchtuner have released a limited edition vinyl release Wanton Fever (600 handnumbered copies only). Pitchtuner is one of those bands we remember being called "irritating electronic arty-fartyism" when we plugged them and "fantastic" a couple of months later. Music journalism... it's "fantastic"! Unlike this song, which really is fantastic.
I-WOLF - Raise My Hand
Wolfgang Schlögel is a member of the Austrian combo Sofa Surfers, but he's also I-Wolf. Klein Records released his solo debut and you can find it in the stores if you ask for Soul Strata.
EAVESDROPPER - Scratching the inner fields (D)
Radio Kurtodrome seems to find its songs anywhere: this track was found on a Czech theatre site. Then again, it belongs to the Ultima Vez production Scratching The Inner Fields by Wim Vandekeybus (choreography) and Eavesdropper (music). The latest Ultima Vez production, Sonic Boom by Vandekeybus and Woven Hand's David Eugene Edwards is currently touring Europe.
CAT POWER - He War (D)
I don't know what we said about Clan Marshall three weeks ago, but here she is again. She has a new album out (on Matador) after years of thinking she'd never perform again. This song proves it was good she changed her mind.
SPINVIS - Kindje van God (D)
Because VPRO's music site 3voor12 got to blow out five candles, a group of artists gave the site a beautiful gift: exclusive songs. The song Spinvis (one of the first artists to confirm playing on Pukkelpop this year!) made is one of the most best songs we've heard this year. It may even be worth leaning Dutch for. Look for it in our Democratische 99 at the end of the year.
PJ HARVEY - I think I'm a mother
The link between Spinvis and PJ Harvey? Both are on the list of the first 24 names for this year's Pukkelpop festival, names that make us suspect we already know where we'll be the last weekend of August. Of course we'll first await the other 175 names. PJ Harvey will be the first rock artist to perform at the Tate Modern (do you notice there's a cultural side to this edition?), but don't go and look for tickets: it's already sold out. As a consolation prize, here's what PJ sounded like on January 22. This was recorded in the Enmore Theatre in Sydney.
NINA NASTASIA - Superstar (D)
And if we may suggest another artist for Pukkelpop (or, maybe even better, Les Nuits Botanique), did the concert organisers amongst you know Nina Nastasia has a new album out? The title is Run to ruin and it's out on Touch & Go.
JULIE DOIRON - Faites de beaux rêves (D)
And this is the tune we ended the lost show with, so here it is again. We hope you enjoyed this edition of Radio Kurtodrome and hope to see you in ten days (the first of our summer festival specials). Have a good night and sweet dreams!
