Radio Kurtodrome 22
'D' is for downloadable. After a few softer editions we tried to go uptempo with this Radio Kurtodrome. Enjoy!
RADIO 4 - Eyes Wide Open (D)
Dance to the underground! That's the familiar Radio 4 song, but this edition kicks off with another song from the Gotham label (distributed by City Slang). Radio 4 is still the New York combo that took their name from a P.I.L. song.
BRIGHT EYES - The Calendar Hung Itself (D)
Here at Radio Kurtodrome we try to make sure our links to the songs are correct. While this may seem trivial, that's actually how we found this song: we actually tried to access a track by Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Then again, is there enough ever Conor Oberst? Very likely yes, but we found this self-destructive song (constantly hovering between Prozac uptempo and dark Nick Cave) quite nice and decided to throw it in this compilation.
SWELL - Like Poverty (D)
Here's another song that doesn't really know what it wants to sound like. Or how a soft voice can be combined with a sniping guitar. "Like Poverty" can be found on Everybody wants to know (Beggars).
MODEST MOUSE - Tiny Cities Made Of Ashes (D)
Modest Mouse are currently touring in the States (with a brief visit to Canada's Vancouver), but if you live on another continent (or they don't tour near you or you don't have money) there's always their music out on cd distributed by Matador.
THE NEW PORNOGRAPHERS - The Laws Have Changed (D)
Electric Version is the new New Pornographers cd out on Matador. In this song the band prove they're not just the backing band of Neko Case (not that that would be bad).
HEFNER - Hymn For The Cigarettes (D)
Hefner released many hymns: one for the alchol, one for the Postal Service, one for the things we didn't do and this on for the cigarettes. Thanks to their label Too Pure, we can offer you this excellent MP3.
AT THE DRIVE-IN - One-Armed Scissor (D)
I was watching an older videotape the other day and suddenly this song was used on the background. For days (and literally days) the chorus of this track kept playing in my head. Quite maddening, to be honest. And now I'm going to infect you...
VERBANA - Way Out West (D)
And finally Verbana. Their biggest claim to fame is that one of their fans is called Dave Grohl. We're sure he knows La Musica Negra is released today (May 20) on Capitol Records, but do you?
