Radio Kurtodrome 21
If the Blackjack edition of Radio Kurtodrome proves one thing, it's that the first song we selected for this edition never made it to the final version. Death by association.

TOCOTRONIC VS. CONSOLE - Freiburg V3.0 (D)
K.O.O.K. Variationen is the title of the Tocotronic remix album. One of the Artists Tocotronic gave their songs to is Console (of The Notwist fame). Let it be clear though that this isn't a new record: K.O.O.K was released in 1999, K.O.O.K Variationen in 2000. L'age d'or is the label that released the records.

AUTOUR DE LUCIE - Sur Tes Pas (D)
Another oldie. Seen only once (on MTV's Alt.Nat.), but never forgotten. I just read the song was released in 1997, so it says a lot about the impact of the song and my memory. The most recent work by French Autour De Lucie appeared in 2002.

MASHA QRELLA - I Want You To Know (D)
It's the last time we'll plug her, okay? But there are two good reasons to select this track: primo, we got a mail from Masha's label saying Masha would perform in Belgium on May 23 where she'll be joined by label mates Barbara Morgenstern and Gudrun Gut and secundo because this time we can offer you an MP3. Oh, and we've bought the album and while it's clear that the songs Radio Kurtodrome found so far are the best on the album, Luck is nevertheless a record you won't regret buying.

PLASTIKMAN - Afrika (Test Kut) (D)
2 CDs and MP3s compiles the finest of the Novamute label on 2 CDs with a few added MP3s. We think that's where the title came from. Richie Hawtin's also present as Plastikman with "Afrika", a song that lasts over 7 minutes and introduces us to the world of African chill out music (or something that would resemble it). One note though, we don't know what the subtitle "test kut" should mean, but in Dutch it means "practice cunt". Lovely.

LAMB - Gabriel (Si Begg remix) (D)
We're not entirely happy with the auditive link between Plastikman and Lamb, but there is a link: Plastikman's label mate on Novamute is Si Begg (who you might know as S.I. Futures). Anyway, Si Begg remixed Lamb, so we're finally able to play some Lamb on Radio Kurtodrome. The best word to describe this remix: warped.

CAMPER VAN BEETHOVEN - Think About Me (D)
Speaking of warped, in 1986 Camper Van Beethoven released an album with cover songs. Not that special, except that they actually only covered one thing: yes, they covered an entire Fleetwood Mac album. More than fifteen years later, Tusk (in the Camper Van Beethoven version) is released on cd. The MP3 comes courtesy of Amazon Germany. Pop trivia quiz: do you know the name of the band that Camper's singer David Lowery is currently fronting? If you answered Cracker, you get one point.

DIE MONITR BATSS - Spread your legs, Release the bats (D)
When we don't know the band, we quote the source (Insound): "From Olympia, WA and Portland OR and the fusion of two seminal post-punk independent bands The Gossip and Sleet Mute Night Mute come avant punk group Die Monitr Batss." When we don't understand what the source is trying to tell us, we read on nevertheless. "This is their debut EP with four songs that have strong reference to late 1970's No Wave from New York ala Lydia Lunch, China Burg, and James Chance era. Their cacophony is their trademark and their trademark is fucking brilliant." This might be my limited knowledge of the post-punk independent genre, but this reminded me of Dead Moon. Yes, who said we don't play all kinds of genres on Radio Kurtodrome? Post-punk independent and African chill out in one half hour, hah!

BETTIE SERVEERT - Smack (D)
We even play normal rock and now that Bettie Serveert's Carol Van Dyk is living in Antwerp, we can even say we plug local artists. The band is still Dutch though and Log 22 is their fifth album. We're really trying not to make a joke with "time to log off now". Really trying. See you in 10 days.
