Radio Kurtodrome 17
Thirty minutes and forty-five seconds. More genres than you could shake a stick at. Which of course doesn't say much: ever tried shaking a stick at music genres?
WOVEN HAND - Aeolian Harp (D)
Belgian choreographer Wim Vandekeybus (the man behind Ultima Vez) was looking for an artist to compose music for his new production (after successfully working with David Byrne). A friend introduced Vandekeybus to David Eugene Edwards (the 16 Horsepower singer and Woven Hand). The result is a new Vandekeybus production (Blush) and a new Woven Hand album, Blush Music, released by Glitterhouse.
JOHN FRUSCIANTE - I Will Always Be Beat Down (D)
In 2001 John Frusciante (in case you're wondering: you know him from the Red Hot Chili Peppers) put an entire record online. From The Sounds Inside is still available on the man's site and available for everyone who's smart enough to combine the artist's name and ".com".
FOLK IMPLOSION - Fuse
Have we told you we really like The New Folk Implosion? Okay, then we'll tell you again. Available in a record store near you. Get it? Get it! The VPRO site put this track online, so many thanks for that.
CALLA - Televised (D)
We wanted to fit Calla in last time, but it collided with the other music. So this time we just picked Calla and looked what would before and after this excellent song. The MP3 was found at Insound.
YONDERBOI - Milonga Del Mar
Tunes.co.uk (where we got this track) described Yonderboi this way: "If Portishead were Hungarian, were a little more upbeat, a tad less prone to self analysis, then they would sound almost like Yonderboi. This, the superb debut album from Laszlo Forgarasi a.k.a Yonderboi is an astonishing exploration of Hip Hop infected Jazz grooves". Sadly the album seems to be deleted, so why would you complain that this track isn't downloadable?
BEASTIE BOYS - In A World Gone Mad (D)
The Beastie Boys features this free download and some comments: "We felt it was important to comment on where the US appears to be heading now. A war in Iraq will not resolve our problems. It can only result in the deaths of many innocent civilians and US troops. If we are truly striving for safety, we need to build friendships, not try to bully the rest of the world." (Adam Yauch) "Being together, writing and recording, we felt it would be irresponsible not to address whats going on in the world while the events are still current. It didnt make sense to us to wait until the entire record was finished to release this song." (Mike D) "This song is not an anti-American or pro-Saddam Hussein statement. This is a statement against an unjustified war." (Adam Horovitz)
OSDORP POSSE - Tegenstrijd trailer (D)
The first band to rap in Dutch was the Osdorp Posse and they've just released a new album (Tegenstrijd). "What zou jij doen?" (What would you do?) is an impressive and powerful song on dead fans (and realizing your own mortality), but you won't find it online. The Posse from Osdorp (a suburb in Amsterdam) put an album trailer that samples some of their latest stuff and we found that a good way to end this episode of Radio Kurtodrome.
