Radio Kurtodrome 13
It's dark outside. Maybe that's what makes this edition sound so good, or maybe it's just the music itself.

THE BAPTIST GENERALS - Alcohol (Turn and Fall) (D)
What is it about this song? Even though it has its shortcomings and we've heard this before, I still like it. Anyway, The Baptist Generals appear courtesy of Glitterhouse Records, who've released No Silver/No Gold, the second album by the Texas-based Baptist Generals.

MASHA QRELLA - You Won't Be There
Masha Qrella made it to the 96th spot of 2002's Democratische 99 with "I Want You To Know". "You Won't Be There" (as heard on German's MTV site) is another song from Qrella's recommended album Luck. If the name sounds familiar, you might know the members of German bands Contriva and Mina, where Masha Qrella is active on keyboards, guitar and bass. Oh, and she sings too. Active and excellent.

BARBARA MORGENSTERN - Dr Mr (D)
Masha Qrella's album is out on the Monika Enterprise label, also the label of Barbara Morgenstern. Morgenstern is this month's MP3 of the month over at City Slang, but we chose another song.

LOGH - Ghosts (D)
Not many seem to have noticed Log changed their name to Logh. And because we don't want you to miss out on their fabulous album Every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings , we selected another song. Logh changed their name before (originally they were called L.O.G.), but this time they had to do it. "Ghosts" is also the first 7" the band has released (Jan 2003) and if you're a collector of special editions (or just someone who likes good music): a limited number of singles have been released on white vinyl.

THE BLACK HEART PROCESSION - Did You Wonder? (D)
This song has been featured on the Democratische 99, is an ex-Video of the Week and here it is again. Maybe this means we like it? Next time you're in the record store, look for an album called Amore Del Tropico.

COUCH - Alle auf Pause (D)
Noticed how many German(-based) artists you find on this Radio Kurtodrome? Let's quote the Kitty-Yo site, home of this MP3: "In 1993, Couch was formed for producing music without soli and singing. the terms post-, ambient and abstract rock still had to be invented when the muenchner quartet couch released their debut. as sonic collagists who borrow elements from rock and pop, rap and hip hop, house and techno, abstract and experimental, and even jazz, to create heterogenous, forward- looking music that eloquently describes the complex cultural landscape they inhabit." "Alle auf Pause" can be found on Profane.

PRAM - The Last Astronaut
This song (actually, the video for this song) was the first I'd heard of Pram. You'll find this song on the album Telemetric Melodies (out on Domino). There must be such a thing as a Pram universe.

THE PAPER CHASE - I Did A Terrible Thing
This is the sort of song that only fits at the end of the 'show'. Many have likened The Paper Chase (read: John Congleton) to Bright Eyes (read: Conor Oberst). They may have a point. The VPRO described this as "emo in extremo". This haunting and scary song is a forebode (call it an omen) of Hide The Kitchen Knives. Now an album with a title like that can only promise fun and entertainment for the entire family, no? We'll see you in ten days or so. Goodbye!
