Radio Kurtodrome 10 (to Meghan)
This is the last Radio Kurtodrome of 2002 and that usually means it's time to reflect on the year that (nearly) was. Not for Radio Kurtodrome! No, we go on with the pumping beats! (average score: 4bpm). We won't promise you to be back in ten days: we've gotten the ludicrous idea into our heads to try and find links for all the songs in the Democratische 99. An idea that's bound to fail, but we'll go for as many as we can find. So... see you somewhere in 2003!

STEREO TOTAL - In/Out (D)
Taken from the 7" "The great Rock'n'Roll Single" (Sheep Records, 1997), this song features both Franoise Cactus and Brezel Gring on vocals and Brezel on all instruments. Because it's the last Radio Kurtodrome of 2002, the year in which Stereo Total managed to breakthrough with their fantastic album Musique Automatique. This song is featured on Stereo Total's site.

MOMMY AND DADDY - The Meeting (D)
It would be a grave mistake to think that all editions of Radio Kurtodrome are programmed from the first to the last song. Sometimes we're searching for a song, can't find it, find something else and then wonder where that song would fit best. This song was the last to make it to this edition and follows Stereo Total because Mommy and Daddy are equally nutty. Mommy mentioned Punky Brewster as favourite sitcom (now that's a while ago) and B-52's, PIL and The Liars as favourite music. Makes sense if you hear the track. Mommy and Daddy will release an album in 2003.

THE LIARS - Mr Your on fire Mr (D)
Records with spelling mistakes don't always make it to Radio Kurtodrome, but in the case of The Liars we'll make an exception because their debut album was one of the finer surprises of the year and it has such an easy-to-remember title ("they threw us all in a trench and stuck a monument on top").

FIREWATER - Get out of my head (D)
Remember Cop Shoot Cop or am I the only one? As soon as I read Firewater is the band of one of them, "Get out of my head" was selected. Even before hearing the song. Which is good, as the song slightly disappointed me. Still, for nostalgia reasons...

JUNE OF 44 - Cardiac Atlas
Or try this MP2 if that sounds better. This song is of Anahata, the album June of 44 saw released in '99. We don't have much information on this band, except that the band was formed out of the ashes of Rodan (not that this rings a bell) and that Southern Records is the distributor of their albums (and of this song). What the future of Stereolab is, is unsure now. All we know is that Mary Hansen's sudden death was a shock. (Copyright: Reinventingtheworld - and the titles apparently since they called it "La Bouche Oreille")

NINA NASTASIA - This is what it is
Another release from Southern Records (on the Touch and Go label) and one of the most underrated albums of 2002. We could say a few things on Nina Nastasia, but really, all you need is her music. "This is what it is" comes from The Blackened Air, an album that also houses "That's all there is". Try not to confuse those songs.

KRISTOFER STRM - Defender
Did you know that good old Kristofer strom released another single this year ("Connected")? Neither did we, but never mind: it's not as good as "All Lovers Hell" or, for that matter, "Defender", the song we've selected here. Because it's one of those nice but rare occasions where a song can stay nice for over 7 minutes. All three tracks come from strm's 2001 release Northern Blues. (copyright: Vitaminic)

NORFOLK & WESTERN - A Marriage Proposal (D)
That a Norfolk & Western song would make it to this edition of Radio Kurtodrome was pretty clear from the start. But which track? Not "Your Sunday Best", the track that'll make it to the Democratische 99. Well, why not the unreleased MP3 on their website? It's really good and will probably make it to the band's next album. Norfolk & Western's current album is called Winter Farewell and is out on Filmguerrero records.
