Radio Kurtodrome presents "Baby, one more cover"
Here are what Pulp would call 'Bad Cover Versions'. And they would have been right: the following tracks can be found on MP3.com and are covers of well-known songs. It doesn't matter how much you hate the originals, these versions are worse. Because of 30 minutes of bad covers would be a bit too much, we'll end this session with Slow Smile's truly brilliant Backstreet Boys cover you can find on MP3.com. Always end in beauty!
SINCE MP3.COM IS NO LONGER ONLINE ALL OF THESE LINKS ARE BROKEN
BRITNEY SPEARS - Oops, I didn't know the mic was still on
All good radio shows have jingles or intros, so why not us? Luckily Miss Spears forgot her microphone was already on, so we can now enjoy a minute of the real Britney. Parental advisory fucking explicit lyrics (and loud shouting when she discovers she got fatter). I'd say this was pretty retarded.
FLESH EATING FOUNDATION - Spin Me Around
They also covered Britney, but the original was better, which is why Radio Kurtodrome chose their Dead or Alive cover above their versions of Britney, Phil Collins, Depeche Mode, PIL, Peter Gabriel and many others. You spin me right round, baby, right round, like a record, baby! Notice how the MP3 keeps spinning for another minute after the song is over. Ask your physics teacher what caused this and why this is natural.
WALL - Oops! I did it again
From the well-known album A Slice of Aggressive Apathy here's a heavy metal version of Britney's classic. Pretty soft for heavy metal, but nevertheless funky.
STRAIN - Say You'll Be There
This trio from England recorded this Spice Girls cover and I think it's better than the original, but - I'm writing this with a window open - even the motor noises outside sound better than the original.
BLENDER:21 - Whenever, wherever
When they asked Jon Spencer to choose between Britney and Christina, his answer was "I don't get involved in politics". Now personally I don't know whu Britney is seen as the modern incarnation of the devil. Surely these people have never heard of Mandy Moore. Which brings us to that annoying Shakira song with that yodel intermezzo. Which is why we like it when Austrian punkers cover it. Now all we need is Shakira covering herself. After all, it's getting autumn soon.
THE CHARISMATICS - I Wanna Live
Yes, why not a Ramones cover? Sadly, we couldn't find a Britney does the Ramones cover, so this lot from Texas will have to do.
SLOW SMILE - Back For Good
With thanks to Toby and might I say we saved the best for last? I had to read this was a Take That cover. I guess that's good for my street credentials. Truly great stuff, this.
Conclusion: there are many untalented people out there on the Web. Never again will we try and make a cover special.
