When George Kuper died he left 20 grandchildren and 8 grandchildren

George H. Kuper, 79, Ree Heights died Friday, January 23, 2004 at his home. His funeral Mass was held Monday January 26, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Highmore, South Dakota, with the Rev. John Short officiating. Burial was at ST. Ann's Cemetery in Miller South Dakota. Luze Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

George Henry Kuper was born October 16, 1924 to Henry J. and Mary M. Koeck Kuper south of Miller. He attended the Spears rural school, and later attended the CCC Camp in the Black Hills. He served in the Navy from February 1944 until May 1946 aboard the Saratoga.

He married Ella June Palmer January 14, 1947, at St Ann's Church in Miller.

He worked as a farm hand for Roy Allgas, Roger Paine and Buster Deuter, before farming on his own at Wolsey and south of Ree Heights. He was employed by the Hand County Highway Department for 20 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Highmore and the American Legion.

Survivors include his three sons, Vernon (Mary) Kuper of Woonsocket, Randy Kuper of Custer and Kenneth Kuper of Ree Heights; three daughteers, Irene Gabriel and Beth Shaffner, both of Miller, and Rebecca (Jon) Nacke of Lincoln, Nebraska; three sisters, Lorraine Martinmaas, Viola Martinmaas and Eileen Boehmer; five brothers, Bernard, Leo, Jerome, Clarence and Donald; 20 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one brother, James; one daughter, Larita Harrison; one sister Margaret Kuper; one grandson; and one daughter-in-law, Diane Kuper

They were married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on SE 11th Ave. Father Raphael Blummel was the priest that married them. The matron of honor was Nelda Marquez the cousin of Martha McCallum. Nelda Marquez later married another man named William Bryson. Nelda's maiden name was Beeler. Her mother Abbie Goodman and my mother Zora Goodman were sisters. The best man was Donald Kuper who was the brother of Jerome Kuper. The weather that day was very very hot. We went to the coast for our honeymoon. We stayed in Newport. We had a 4 day week-end for our honeymoon. We had a 1949 Mercury at that time. We had the reception at Nelda's house. We only had family at the wedding. I did not want a big wedding as I do not like to be in front of a large group of people. Betty McCallum my brother Dan's wife talked me into having immediate family there at least. Immediate family in our case was a church full of people. Jerome comes from a family of 10 brothers and sisters and I had 5 older brothers. Betty's sister JoAnne made the cake. I paid $55.00 for my wedding dress. It was size 11.

Laurie Ann Kuper Wood of Bend Oregon died Sunday of natural causes. She was 44 years old.

A visitation was held from 6 pm to 8 pm Thursday, Sept. 16 2004 in Redmond, along with a rosary at 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Redmond Oregon. A private interment was held at the cemetery in Redmond.

Ms. Wood was born July 3, 1960 in Salem to Leo and Louella (Hall) Kuper. She graduated from North Salem High School in 1978. She worked for Pozzi Windows as a shipping clerk and as a salesperson. She enjoyed fishing and camping.

Survivors include her parents; a son, Dalton of Bend: three brothers, Jerry of Los Angeles: John of Redmond and Joseph of Salem: and a sister, Debra Howard of Salem.
