This campsite is located along the Shimoyama river. There is a large river pool with a 5m waterfall, which is great for swimming. The brave can try a 10m bridge jump into the pool. The campsite also boasts the largest waterwheel in Japan. Shimoda onsen is a 10 minute drive away - on the junction of the 286 and 389 coastal road. There are some great beaches also a short drive away. Visit the pebble beach Myo ken ga ura for fantastic snorkeling and sea canoeing or continue along the 389 coastal road south for some sandy beaches. It is located on the 286, 10 minutes drive from the far west coast of Amakusa. It should take about 2 1/2 hours from Kumamoto City. Pre-pitched tents cost 2000yen, bungalows 16800yen.
