Swan Song of a Dying Earth

I am dying.
The leaves fall from the trees.
Will this be the last time they do?
Soon the snow will cover me.
A blanket to shelter me from the cold.
Will I wake again?
Will I ever smell the sweet fragrance of spring?
Will I again see the blossom of a new generation?
For countless ages I've sheltered my creatures.
The small and the insignificant...
the large and the mighty.
I've given to them.
The best in my power of offer them..
and they've taken.
What have they returned to me?
A sick and dying body.
I crumble beneath their feet...
and no one seems to notice.
Don't they realize that by destroying each other,
that they are destroying me?
And I am them.
I am the mother of all creation.
I give the seas their strange and powerful beauty.
I give the land the power to renew itself..
and to give back to them.
I give them life.
Why then are they destroying me?
Is it too late?
Weep for me now my children ....
for there will be no one left to grieve ,
when I am gone.
Just a vast cold emptiness where there once was life.
I am the Earth.
I am dying.
Please.... help me.
