QUOTES FOR THOUGHTS

"We are Mexican, mostly indigenous, and we took up arms on January 1 of 1994 demanding a voice, face and name for the forgotten of the earth. For the powerful of Mexico and the government, to be indigenous, or to look indigenous, is reason for disdain, abhorrence, distrust and hatred. The racism which now floods the palaces of Power in Mexico goes to the extreme of carrying out a war of extermination, genocide, against millions of indigenous. I am sure that you will find similarities with what the Power in the United States does with the so-called "people of color" (African-American, Chicanos, Puerto Ricans, Asians, NorthamericanIndians and any other peoples who do not have the insipid color of money.)"

The process of revolution is not that of storming the seats
of power, but of creating the environment where the popular
Anti-War Demonstrator in Seoul South Korea notions of society, power and legitimacy, shift out from
underneath those seats of power. [Independent media] is a
vehicle through which the ideological basis of present power
structures can be subverted.

"To love is to suffer. To avoid suffering one must not love. But then one
suffers from not loving. Therefore, to love is to suffer. Not to love is to
suffer. To suffer is to suffer. To be happy is to love. To be happy, then,
is to suffer. But suffering makes one unhappy. Therefore, to be unhappy one
must love, or love to suffer, or suffer from too much happiness. I hope
you're getting this down."

The following was in response to a comment about the protesters in
Genoa Italy for the gathering of the G8

Subject: Don't these freaking losers have jobs???

These are the real "freaking losers" that don't "have jobs???"

1. Corporate CEO spouses who spend all day shopping at Saks and Neiman Marcus/Needless Markup
2. People who can apparently take off during the work week to celebrate at the Colorado Avalanche or LA Laker victory parties
3. People who spent an entire week in Philadelphia or LA last summer as delegates to Republican and Democratic political conventions
4. People who are at shopping malls and golf courses across the country during work week business hours
5. Young adults who are at MTV's Spring Break festival (is mommy and daddy paying for them to be there???)
6. People who travel to the Super Bowl from across the country to watch "their" corporate football team in action....
7. People who attend Major League Baseball day games during the work week
8. Corporate executives who made up Bush's entourage in Genoa this week
9. Elian protesters
10. Corporate "persons" such as McDonnell's which suck welfare money off the taxpayers for things like promoting hamburger sales in Indonesia.
Have I kicked in the yahoos' hornets' nest yet???

Contrary to popular belief, conventional wisdom would have one believe that it is insane to resist this, the mightiest of empires.... But what history really shows is that today's empire is tomorrow's ashes, that nothing lasts forever, and that to not resist is to acquiesce in your own oppression. The greatest form of sanity that anyone can exercise is to resist that force that is trying to repress, oppress, and fight down the human spirit .

During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act .
-George Orwell

=========================================

Men do not shape destiny. Destiny produces the man for the hour. - A revolution is not a bed of roses. A revolution is a struggle to the death between the future and the past. - I was a man who was lucky enough to have discovered a political theory, a man who was caught up in the whirlpool of Cuba's political crisis . . . discovering Marxism . . . was like finding a map in the forest. - I began revolution with 82 men. If I had [to] do it again, I'd do it with 10 or 15 and absolute faith. It does not matter how small you are if you have faith and plan of action. - I think that a man should not live beyond the age when he begins to deteriorate, when the flame that lighted the brightest moment of his life has weakened.
-Fidel Castro

Let me say, with the risk of appearing ridiculous, that the true revolutionary is guided by strong feelings of love.… Above all, always be capable of feeling any injustice committed against anyone anywhere in the world
-Erneso "Che" Guevara

The first duty of a revolutionary is to get away with it.
-Abbie Hoffman
========================================

"This is a role our nation has taken. The role of those who make peaceful revolution impossible by refusing to give up the priveleges and pleasures that comes from the immense profits of overseas investments. I'm convinced that if we are to get on the right side fo the world revolution, we as a nation must undergo a radical revolution of values. We must rapidly begin to shift from a thing-oriented society to a person-oriented society. When machines and computers, profit motives and property rights are considered more important than people; the giant triplets of racism, militarism, and economic exploitation are incapable of being conquered. A true revolution of values will soon cause us to question the fairness and justice of many of our present policies... True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar. A true revolution of values will soon look on uneasily upon the glaring contrast of poverty and wealth with righteous indignation. It will look across the seas and see individual capitalists of the West invest in huge sums of money in Asia, Africa, and South America only to take the profits out with no concern for the social betterment of the countries, and say 'this is not just'. It will look at our alliance with the landed gentry of Latin America and say 'this is not just'. Western arrogance of feeling it has everything to teach others, and nothing to learn from them is not just. A true revolution of values will lay hands on the world order and say of war: 'This way of settling differences is not just.' This business of burning human beings with napalm, of filling our nation's homes with orphans and widows, of injecting poisonous drugs of hate into veins of people normally humane, of sending men home from dark and bloody battlefields physically handicapped and psychologically deranged, cannot be reconciled with wisdom, justice and love. A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death."
-Martin Luther King

What has come to an explosive conclusion, of course, is the
United States' famous exceptionalism, that attitude that
allowed the citizens of this country to imagine themselves as
beyond the sorrows and calamities that have plagued less
fortunate people. None of the great battles of the 20th
century had touched the continental United States. It is that
complacent invulnerability that has been fractured forever.
