Edwin and Anna May Kuhlmann

Edwin Kuhlmann born Aug. 2, 1909. Edwin loved farming and raising livestock. As a young man he rented land, and when his father retired, took over the home place. Edwin's dad wasn't very happy the day Edwin purchased a new CC Case tractor. He couldn't see the sense in replacing the horses with this machine.

Anna May Rears, born July 12, 1919, taught school at the Stone School 1940 - 1942. She boarded with the Kuhlmann's while Edwin lived at home. When Edwin was invited to the neighborhood youth parties, they told him to bring the school teacher along. The local school board become a little nervous about the arrangement so Anna May took another school, but that didn't keep Edwin from pursuing her. They were married on April 28, 1946. They moved a second house to the farm. This facilitated good access to his farm and livestock which he loved, and made it possible for them to look after his parents. Edwin retired when his wife lost an arm in a hay baler accident. They sold the farm and moved to Humboldt, Nebr. in 1988.

Edwin loved his church, St. James Lutheran, where he was a life long member and served on the church board for many years. Edwin died on August 2, 1991 -- his 82th Birthday. Anna May died on August 11, 2006 after a long fight with Cancer. They had 3 children:Belva Ann, Alfred Edwin and Audrey May.
