History

Designing Women cast

In the summer of 1986, Linda Bloodworth Thomason approached CBS about making a new sitcom, with for specific actresses already in mind. The network agreed and later that summer a new sitcom hit television sets from around the country. Designing Women starred Delta Burke, Dixie Carter, Annie Potts, and Jean Smart -- and was centered around one of Atlanta's top designing firms.
After surviving a rocky start, the show became a hit -- and one of the most loved. After several cast changes (Jan Hook, Julia Duffy, & Judith Ivey) the show ended in the Spring of 1993. During it's seven season run, DW managed to get numerous VQT Awards, over ten Emmy nominations, and a Golden Globe nomination, among many others.

Designing Women was clearly one of the most controversial, groundbreaking, and influential shows of the eighties -- and it continues to influence young women, teenagers, and men today. It tackled everything from AIDS to women's rights -- with grace and style.
It was funny, and touching, and truly inspiring -- It was simply like no other.

I think Designing Women was a great show because of the chemistry of the actors, and because there was such great writing involved. The writers knew how to get laughs out of all of us.

In 1995, the DW spin-off, Women Of The House, premiered. The show starred Delta Burke, reprising the role that made her famous, Suzanne Sugarbaker -- but now as a congresswoman. The show had a rather short run and was soon cancelled.
Fans all over want to see this splendid cast work together again. We feel that neither Designing Women or Women Of The House received a proper and well deserved farewell.
We had long heard of the idea of a DW reunion, and so we decided to begin The KTDWPA Project. Basically, KTDWPA is a fan-based committee, in which fans voice their opinion towards a Designing Women reunion. We decided to begin KTDWPA in early February '01. After many different attempts at improving the project, we decided that the best approach was through the fans!
Thank you for all your support!
