Choice Pickin's Storied History
Choice Pickins' was the vision of Jared Fuller a former student at TCU who had a love of bluegrass from an early age. He once told me that while visiting his brother Justin in Boulder he was reintroduced to old time music and attended a awesome life changing concert by Yonder Mountain String Band in Denver on New Years. Boom Jared was hooked and raced back to school with an idea for a radio show and bam his creation came to life thanks to the kind folks at the Radio, TV, Film dept. at Texas Christian University.
Jared hosted and produced the show for 3 years and in effect creating the only bluegrass show in the whole D/FW metroplex. Jared was a stellar student and before his inevitable on-time graduation the show was in jeopardy. Then like a ray of hope shining down from Bluegrass Heaven Mike Abb suddenly and mysteriously appeared on the scene. He brought with him a massive collection of recordings, information, and energy to keep the show alive! He took over the reigns and Choice Pickins' continues to be one of the top programs at the station. The success has been sweet thanks to responses from legions of fans that have grown accustomed to the sweet sound of stringbands across the nation and world thanks to our streaming radio signal over the internet. Mike has made it his ultimate goal to spread the word about bluegrass and oldtime string band music to the masses. He hopes that you will help him achieve that goal by staying tuned in and ears perked up for true american roots music 3 times a week!!!
