With their increasing involvement in the Seperatist's
activities, the Geonosians began preparing for war.
Alongside their sonic blasters, they created the sonic
cannon, a turret weapon of sizeable power and
destruction.
The Geonosian equivalent of the standard tripod
cannon used by many of the galaxy's military forces, the
sonic defence platform - also known simply as a sonic
cannon - was turret based, and required two gunners to
operate. The energy ball released from the cannon was
not contained inside a plasma shell, as with the sonic
blasters, so their damage was much more wide-spread. However, this also posed a drawback; the sonic cannon was not very accurate, and could destroy a precious Geonosian hive as easily as it could repel an enemy infantry assault. Luckily, an advanced targeting computer built into the cannon upped the accuracy slightly, and compensated somewhat for the slow fire rate. The charge-generation, too, was fully automated.
The cannon was also slow to move and even slower to set up once in position. It was also vunerable to attack even from small weapons fire, so each cannon had to be well-defended. However, its power and the sheer devastation it caused made protecting it worthwhile. |
