| Jabba the Hutt's luxury pleasure craft, the Khetanna, was a modified Ubrikkian sail barge used to ferry the crimelord to and from his palace - and to the various executions he set up on Tatooine. Jabba's sail barge was originally intended as nothing more than a pleasure craft, and so had little in the way of defences. Since Jabba's underworld dealings made him a prime target for assassins and rival gangs, he had the staff at his palace workshop outfit the Khetanna with numerous upgrades. Tougher armour was fitted, portable antipersonnel blasters could be fitted to the handrails, and a powerful deck gun was installed. An advanced sensor suite was also installed, to warn the Hutt of approaching Imperials. The main use of the Khetanna was to transport Jabba for business meetings, or from his townhouses in Tatooine's cities to his opulent palace. However, he also used it to ferry himself and his court out to high-stakes races to win more credits for his criminal empire, and to sometimes raid his many rivals. Apart from its practical uses, the Khetanna was used to host decadent parties during cruises across Tatooine. On these cruises, Jabba and his retinue made use of the elaborate kitchen the Hutt requested. The barge was used also to watch executions out in the Dune Sea - though it was one of these executions that saw the end of Jabba, and the destruction of the Khetanna. When Luke Skywalker killed Jabba's rancor after attempting to free Han Solo, Jabba ordered the Jedi and his friends to be executed in the Dune Sea. While the Hutt and his court travelled in the Khetanna, Jabba's enemies rode in a desert skiff to the Pit of Carkoon, where they would be thrown to the Sarlacc. However, Skywalker turned the tables on Jabba and attacked his henchmen. Leia Organa killed the Hutt, and raced up to the deck. There, she used the Khetanna's own deck gun to blast the barge. As the Rebels escaped, the sail barge exploded, and Jabba's empire went up in flames with it. |
