The Platoon Attack Craft - also known as a Trade Federation troop carrier - was a repulsorlift sled used during the invasion of Naboo to carry battle droid soldiers into the City of
Theed.
Unlike the larger Mobile Troop Transports also used by the
Trade Federation, the Platoon Attack Craft did not boast
weaponry and heavy armour to protect its droids with. It was deployed behind the protection of ground armour in secure conditions, or within occupied territory. The troop carrier was equipped with a forward flood light for use at night, but little else. Although the MTT could carry many more droids and offer them greater protection, many troop carrier sleds were still kept in the Trade Federation forces.
The craft's drive unit was adapted from a civilian cargo sled, though the Trade Federation carrier featured a large troop deployment rack behind it. Similar to the deployment racks used in MTTs, the troop carrier's single rack could hold one hundred and twelve battle droids, folded into their space saving configurations. The troop carriers were transported down to Naboo along with MTTs and assault tanks in huge C-9979 landing craft. The troop carriers joined in formation with the other transports as the Trade Federation invasion force occupied the capital city of Theed. After the Clone Wars, the few troop carriers that survived the conflict were once again used as civilian cargo sleds. |
