Cyborg technology was often scrutinized by many who felt cyborgs were a step too far in cybotics, though units such as the BioTech Aj^6 proved to be very useful in running many organizations. Cloud City's administrative aide, Lobot, wore a BioTech Aj^6, which allowed him to interface with the city's central computer and increased his logic and reasoning capabilities. The user could control any linked computer through mental commands, and could direct security staff via comlink. The memory on the Aj^6 stored millions of data screen units for instant access, and several external ports on the implant allowed the user to accept knowledge cartridges that provided exhaustive information on any given subject. However, the ability of the cyborg construct depended on the type of computer it was linked to. Lobot had the capability to instantly check any data within the massive Cloud City computer core, and could adjust all the city's operations - ranging from altering the output of the city's massive repulsorlift generators to sounding a city-wide alarm. Lobot was also able to access the city's communications scanners to listen in on comlink and subspace transmissions. However, the Aj^6 had its downsides. As well as being very expensive - both the unit itself and the delicate surgery needed to fit the construct - Lobot's cyborg construct hampered his ability to speak, fragmenting his sentances and turning him more into a robot rather than a cyborg. There were even several recorded cases where subjects suffered from cybernetic psychosis, whereby they went insane when their minds lost the ability to maintain control of the cyborg computer. |
The cyborg construct worn by John Hollis (Lobot) was battery-powered: this made it very heavy and uncomfortable to wear on set. It was fixed onto Hollis's head by a spring clip |
