| Resembling a giant, clawed beetle from Neimoidia, the Lapiz Cutter shuttle was ideal for carrying the cowardly Neimoidian leaders of the Trade Federation out of danger fast. The Sheathipede-class transport was designed to carry up to five beings, and was piloted by two droids. The passengers were usually always Neimoidians after they took over the Trade Federation. The shuttle often transported them between their freighters, or to and from ground-based installations. When landing, beetle-like legs were deployed to steady the craft while its occupants entered or exited through a hatch at the aft of the ship. For protection, the shuttle was armed with a single blaster cannon. Nute Gunray used a Lapiz Cutter shuttle during the blockade of Naboo. When Darth Sidious ordered the Trade Federation to invade the planet, Nute travelled into Theed City in a shuttle. Once there, he took the royal palace as his own, though he occasionally returned to his battleship in orbit if needed. Eventually, he was captured by Queen Amidala, and sent to Coruscant. Though he was put on trial, he remained the Viceroy of the Trade Federation, and kept his shuttle. He used it ten years later on Geonosis, to meet with Count Dooku to ally the Federation with the Seperatists. He later fled in the shuttle when the Army of the Republic invaded the planet. |
