In an early draft of The Empire Strikes Back, seeker remotes were used by Yoda to train Luke. These were far more aggressive than the one Obi-Wan used in A New Hope; one blast even rendered the young Jedi unconscious |
There was never a violent, deadly Sith around when you needed one...when Jedi had no sentient sparring partners, they turned instead to droids, such as warrior droids for lightsaber combat, or training remotes for enhancing their skills against blaster-wielding foe. Small, compact devices, training remotes were simple droids without independant initiative used not only by Jedi, but also by gunslingers wishing to perfect their sharpshooting skills. Remotes hovered above the ground, delivering weak laser shots which the trainee either dodged or deflected, in the case of a Jedi. The droids were also equipped with an array of sensors, and housed dozens of combat drills within their computer systems. As training sessions intensifed, the remote began to move more quickly and attack with more intense bursts of energy. In the most extreme cases, the remote's stun blasts even rendered the trainee unconscious. Training remotes were used by the Jedi Order to train up their Youngling clans, though they were often used by fully-fledged Jedi wishing to hone their skills further. When training Luke Skywalker in the ways of the Force, Obi-Wan Kenobi borrowed Han Solo's Marksman-H to hone Skywalker's lightsaber skills. The practice session also taught Luke how to use the Force to guide his hand in battle. Other remotes have also been used as spies, and even assassin droids; the Empire used modified remotes, which they called seekers, to track down and kill Imperial enemies during the Galactic Civil War. |
[Look, good against remotes is one thing. Good against the living? That's something else] |
