An agile and deadly droid walker created by the Commerce Guild, the dwarf
spider droid proved useful in defending the Seperatist armies and the
Commerce Guilds' investments.
The dwarf spider droid was also known as a 'burrowing spider
droid' as it was first used in narrow mine shafts. The droid
was deployed to ferret out customers who had neglected to
pay what they owed to the Commerce Guild. The central
laser cannon - mounted to look like a nose on the droid's
face - and the cannon underneath the head provided the
firepower, while the droid's small frame and four all-terrain
legs made it perfectly suitable to the clausrophobic mines.
However, the fixed laser cannons meant that the droid could not swivel them to track enemies, and was thus somewhat inferior to fast-moving targets.
Nevertheless, the dwarf spider droid was deployed effectively during the Clone Wars. It was often used on the frontline, advancing in front of platoons of battle droids and larger homing spider droids. The dwarf spider droid's short stature meant that the homing spider droids could fire over its head into the enemy ranks. The head itself was filled mostly with power cells for the droid's two blasters. Though the droids were not armoured well enough to withstand a heavy assault, they proved effective for delivering a little extra firepower. |
