Originally, the ASN-121 was to be a probe droid, in the bein of Darth Maul's dark eye droids. However, the ASN was bulked up to allow handholds for Obi-Wan Kenobi |
A droid designed specifically for the blood trade of assassination, the ASN-121 was useful, yet ultimately as expendable as its targets. The ASN-121 was an extremely versatile droid, and was able to handle many types of assassinations. The powerful repulsorlift array which kept the droid afloat in the skies bracketed a frontal tool chuck. This could be equipped with a variety of attachments; a harpoon gun, a sniper blaster, a gas dispenser, spy sensors, a flame- thrower and various drills and cutters. It could also hold certain items, to be deposited elsewhere. Behind the tool chuck were two large cooling vanes, and below it was the droid's infrared photoreceptor. Zam Wesell owned an ASN assassin, and used it on many occasions. It once aided her in breaking in to the high-security prison on Oovo IV, where she even managed to outwit Jango Fett. Later, when Zam was employed by Fett to kill a Senator from Naboo, she used her ASN-121 to do the job. After Zam failed to kill Senator Amidala upon her arrival on Coruscant, Jango gave her a cylinder of poisonous kouhuns, telling her a more subtle approach was needed. Fitting the kouhun jar into the ASN's tool chuck, Zam sent the droid to Amidala's apartment. It used its cutter arm to remove a portion of the window outside Amidala's bedroom, then deposited the kouhuns inside. However, all did not go to plan. Two Jedi appeared from another room, and killed the kouhuns before they could complete their assignment. Then, the focus turned on the ASN, which had been lingering outside. Obi-Wan Kenobi leaped out of the window as the ASN tried to flee, and grabbed the droid. It tried to shake him off, and even attempted to deliver a powerful electric shock to the Jedi. However, Kenobi clung on, and the droid unwittingly led him closer to Zam Wesell. The bounty hunter didn't want her identity known, so she took the only option she had available. She destroyed the ASN-121 with a well-placed sniper shot, causing the Jedi to plummet towards Coruscant's depths. Though her droid could no longer lead the Jedi to her, Zam's troubles were only just beginning... |
