| Though only fourteen, Tahiri Veila had been through much in her life, from her early years being brought up by Tusken Raiders to the loss of her new love and an internal battle with an enemy she thought long dead. Tahiri's life began simply enough. She was born to moisture farmers on Tatooine, and lived in happiness for her first years. However, the peace was shattered after Tahiri's parents found and nursed a wounded Tusken Raider - Sliven - at their homestead. Sliven's tribe suddenly attacked the settlement, killing Tryst and Cassa Veila.Stricken with guilt, Sliven adopted Tahiri as his own daughter. For five years the sandpeople looked after the young girl, but again Tahiri's world was changed with the apperance of Jedi Luke Skywalker and Tionne. They talked Tahiri into coming with them to Luke's Jedi Academy on Yavin IV. She agreed, and left the Tusken Raiders far behind. On Yavin IV, Tahiri began her training as a Jedi, and befriended Anakin Solo in the process. However, they realised the two of them were both experiencing the same dream, which led them to the Palace of the Woolamander, and to the ancient Jedi, Ikrit. Soon after, she and Anakin travelled to Tatooine, where Tahiri had to decide whether to continue her training or return to the sandpeople. After an ordeal in the Dune Sea, Tahiri decides to return to Yavin IV. The two had many more adventures, but ultimately Anakin left the Academy to return to his family. Tahiri carried on with her training, and graduated into the Jedi praxeum, training under Kam Solusar and Tionne. But once again, an alien invasion turned Tahiri's life upside down. Two years into their invasion, the Yuuzhan Vong targeted Yavin IV. Tahiri found herself trapped on the planet, and though the other young students reached safety, she was captured. She was given to the Shapers, Mezhan Kwaad and Nen Yim, who mapped her neural pathways in an attempt to isolate the Force. They began to Shape her into a hybrid of Yuuzhan Vong and Jedi Knight, though luckily Anakin arrived to save her. Tahiri killed Kwaad, and the two escaped Yavin IV. Though Tahiri believed the Vong side of her had been destroyed, it was merely waiting within her. Soon after her rescue, Tahiri and Anakin fell in love, but their relationship was broken when Solo was killed on a mission above Myrkr. Worse, Tahiri watched him fall. Anakin's death affected Tahiri greatly, sinking her into a deep depression during which the Yuuzhan Vong within her - calling itself Riina Kwaad - surfaced and began a terrible internal battle with Tahiri. Though she was able to develop her piloting skills with Barefoot Squadron - named because of her nature to never wear shoes - her condition declined. She fell into comas and deep unconciousness whenever she encountered something linked to the Vong, though it was actually Riina trying to take over Tahiri's mind and body. Though Tahiri was too terrified to face her fears, she eventually learned that she could meld with Riina - any other way would kill the both of them - and became a changed girl. She was no longer half Jedi, half Yuuzhan Vong, but a whole of something new...and powerful. |
