| He watched the Empire destroy his friends, his family and homeworld when the Death Star tested its super- laser on Alderaan, and vowed never to let such a terrible thing happen ever again. Thus, Carlist Rieekan joined the Rebellion, and fought Emperor Palpatine at every turn. Rieekan started his career in the Republic at seven- teen, serving as an officer on his homeworld of Alderaan into the time of the Empire. He sympathized with the Rebellion, but was not an active freedom fighter. When the Death Star arrived in the Alderaan system, Rieekan was assisting with an inspection of the satellite transmitters around Delaya. He considered sending a warning down to his planet, but feared the Empire would find the security breach. However, the Death Star obliterated Alderaan anyway, filling Rieekan with a new resolve. Never would he hesitate in battle, and always would he fight the tyranny of the Empire. After fleeing the Alderaan system with a group of Alliance supporters, Rieekan met up with the Rebellion shortly before the Battle of Hoth, and served as a line officer. He became a General, and commander of Echo Base on Hoth. It was Rieekan's foresight that allowed the Alliance time to evacuate the base when it was found by the Empire. Rieekan fled as well, and stayed with the Alliance through the Battle of Endor and beyond. With the New Republic in power, Rieekan became the Minister of State to Chief of State Leia Organa Solo, and later head of New Republic Intelligence. He retired soon after, but was called back into active duty during the Yuuzhan Vong invasion. He became the commander of Coruscant's Planetary Defence Force when the alien invaders pushed towards Galactic Center. Despite his best efforts, Rieekan could not stop the Vong from taking Coruscant. |
