One of the most well-known and adept Jedi Knights in the galaxy, Obi-Wan Kenobi's life has been far from easy. As if losing both his Master then his padawan was not enough, he faced three years of war and nine- teen of isolation, before battling his own apprentice in a fight to the death. Yet Kenobi's life began simply enough...for a Jedi. He began his training at the tender age of one, as a Youngling learning under Master Yoda. He was head- strong and reckless, but he was shaping into a powerful Jedi. Even so, he almost didn't get the chance: his 13th birthday was fast approaching - upon which all trainees needed to have a Master - and he was still not a padawan. Luckily, Qui-Gon Jinn took him on as his padawan on Bandomeer, after an adventure which formed a bond between them. Master and apprentice had many more adventures, some of which were the cause of Qui-Gon's old padawan Xanatos, who had fallen to the dark side. Though Obi-Wan's bond with Qui-Gon was strong, his trust in the Jedi Master was tested on the planet Melida/Daan. There, Obi-Wan was swayed by a group of freedom fighters called the Young. He began to question his role as a Jedi, and stayed behind on the planet while Qui-Gon - hurt deeply by his padawan's actions - returned to Coruscant alone. However, when one of Obi-Wan's new friends was killed, Kenobi realised he had made a mistake, and called Qui-Gon to collect him. Yet the Jedi Council did not take Obi-Wan's actions lightly, and would not let him return to the Jedi Order. Fortunately for Obi-Wan, the appearance of Xanatos - and his subsequent death while duelling Qui-Gon - reformed the bond between Kenobi and Jinn. Obi-Wan was accepted again as Qui-Gon's padawan. Even though Obi-Wan began to mature quicky, he still found himself on the recieving end of many of Qui-Gon's stern lectures. Though Obi-Wan was skilled at seeing the 'big picture' - the unifying Force - he was not attuned to the here-and-now - the living Force, which Qui-Gon spoke highly of. Obi-Wan was too reckless to hold high opinions of what he deemed to be lesser beings, causing Qui-Gon to often admonish him for his prejudice. |
