DARTH BANE |
Pronounced: Dar-th Bay-n |
Though the dark side offered ultimate power to those who could harness it, for some that power was not enough. So it was with the ancient Sith Lords and Dark Jedi, who fought between themselves for supremacy of their crumbling Empire. And it was the calm, patient Darth Bane who managed to save the Sith Order so that the galaxy may once more feel the power of the dark side. The ancient Sith Lord was the last of his kind to survive the Battle of Ruusan, a catastrophic struggle that consumed his order some 2,000 years before the Battle of Yavin. Bane was a tall, bald man with heavy muscles and an intimidating gaze. He had trained under Lord Qordis, but never actually completed his training, confident in his destiny to rule the Sith. He became the leader of the Brotherhood of the Sith, and waged a terrible war against the Jedi and the Republic. Though his campaigns brought the Sith Lords sucess, they became increasingly disunited, and their loyalty to Bane crumbled. Eventually, members of Bane's own Brotherhood attempted to poison their leader, and Lord Kaan took up leadership of the Sith. However, Bane survived, though he was unable to regain control of the Brotherhood. Instead, he allowed it to destroy itself - thanks to a thought bomb detonated by the inept Kaan. Bane was the sole survivor, and fled to Dxun, where he set about creating a new Sith Order. He established a set of rules, dominated by the pretense that there could only be two Sith active in the galaxy at any time: a Master and an apprentice. Eventually, Bane took his own apprentice, and set his new order in motion. In the next thousand years, the sucessors of Darth Bane were taught the virtues of patience, planning and secrecy. They also inherited the name 'Darth', which was bestowed upon all future Dark Lords. Thanks to Bane, the Sith Order once more rose up to conquer the galaxy, a thousand years after his new order began. |
Darth Bane was first mentioned in the novelization of The Phantom Menace. His tale was told in full in the Jedi vs Sith comic |
