| Mary Ann Weston Maughan | ||||||||||
| Mary Ann was born on March 10, 1817 in Corse, Gloucester, England, to Thomas Halford and Elizabeth Walker Thackwell Weston. She was the second of eight children. She loved her family very much. She said that she was her father's favorite child. She especially loved her brother Thomas, he was her friend and supporter through everything. Mary Ann joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 2, 1840. She was taught the gospel and baptized by Wilford Woodruff. She married John Davis on December 23, 1840 in Saint Nicholas, Gloucester, Gloucester, England. They lived in a home that John provided in Tirley. However, less than four months after they were married John was killed by persecuting mobs. He died on April 6, 1841 in Tirley, Gloucester, England. Mary Ann decided to leave England and go to Anerica to join the other LDS Saints that summer. The hardest trial was to leave her father, mother and all of the rest of her family and friends. On the 4th of May 1841 Mary Ann left all that was near and dear, and cast her lots with the other saints of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She married Peter Maughan in Nauvoo, Illinois on November 2, 1841. They had eight children: Charles Weston, Peter Weston, Joseph Weston, Hyrum Weston, Willard Weston, Elizabeth Weston, Martha, and Peter Weston Maughan. Mary Ann settled Cache valley along side her husband. She was a wonderful wife, mother, midwife, and friend. |
