Some very interesting pictures..they give a good glimpse of Sherwood of the 60s
David is in Australia , and is in the IT field. Seems he was a pretty good athlete !
In 1968 he broke the school record for the Long Jump jumping 20ft and 4 inches, that had been standing since 1938 !
...and also came a close 2nd in the 200 meters.
We'll also see what a Handsome personality he had...and am sure still has !
SHERWOODIANS !! we know every one has their own unique collection of photographs !..please e-mail them to me ( with a brief description ) at [email protected] and I'll make sure all of us get to enjoy them !!

Sohal,
I agree with you it is great to be able to communicate with old
Sherwoodians. I have a couple of old photographs which you may wish to
publish on the web site. I will send them one at a time so each down load
does not tie up your phone line for too long (unless you have broadband).
My initial reaction was to unsubscribe as the early flurry of emails did not
really entice me as most information was more of a personal nature than of
group wide interest- perhaps its only a teething problem. Of course your
email encouraged me not to unsubscribe.
I am living in Australia (have been since 1969) and am able to offer
assistance by way of coaching, advise or help to both younger and older
Sherwoodians. I am working in the IT&T industry in a senior management
capacity and would welcome any opportunity to help others. Right now I am
contemplating a career change and would consider any India/Australia
business opportunity (in IT or other field).
The attached photo is circa 1963; LJ boys from Horsman wing. I am second
from right and would like to know who the other boys are? If anyone can tell
me who these boys are I will send them a small gift from Australia!
Best regards
Harish

Hello David !
Thanks for the picture !....Its a great one ...and real clear too....send me all the pictures you have....I'll immediately make a page of your collection !....these pictures are definitely valuable to the senior OS....but they are also great opportunity for the younger OS to get a glimpse into the past of Sherwood....
Its great your offer to assist Sherwoodians in ur line of expertise...I'll get the word around !
Yes....initially the messages were not that interesting....but am working towards that....make this E-group such that every body looks fwd to it daily...am planning to Daily include an interesting article from The Sherwoodian......
another thing I am really interested in is in making the generations co-operate.....younger Sherwoodians can REALLY benefit with the assistance of the senior OS....probably vice-versa too sometimes.....Sherwood has trained us to excel in life....most will independently be successful...but if we start co-operating....there can be no limits Sherwoodians cant cross...
You say you are looking for a career change....do let me know the details and I'll pass the word around...am sure something will click !...there are lots of Sherwoodians into manufacturing & exporting great stuff !....maybe some of them would be interested in going along with you....also , I was discussing with some of my classmates...who are into exports...what would it be like to set up E-retail shops for their products....direct retails thru the web to thier target countries....much greater margin of profit...of course they wd need someone in those countries look after the operations there...just a suggestion....
Looking fwd to ur other pics !....don't worry about how many u send...I got a broadband at home !
With Regards...Sohal.

Sohal,
Good to see you have a broadband connection; I will send you all the photos I have.
I agree with you entirely regarding people helping each other. One of my great strengths is my ability to collaborate and teamwork and to provide support. I would be delighted to help any one in any way that I can.
Regarding my career change - I had considered setting up a store to sell goods purchased from The Bombay Store but, at that time, I knew of no one who I could trust so the idea disappeared. Now that I have contact with old Sherwoodian friends this sort of proposal is more feasible. I would entertain opportunities to set up e-Retail shops, software/web site development opportunities; selling s/w products developed in India; or as you suggested perhaps act as a channel or manage operations at this end. So basically anything where we can make a very profitable business. My background is in software development and technology. So lets see how things develop from here.
The first photo was taken just outside our school chapel immediately after a church service praying for our safe return. It was taken around April/May 1967 (exact date eludes me). From left to right: Jaggi, Dhawan, Rana, Ian Gill, Mr Thappa, Mr Johnson, Dalip Tahil, myself, Paul Sherriff and Mohit Singha. There were two other boys on the trip who were not photographed: I think one was Tyagi and the other name I cannot remember but I thought he had a Nepalese background.
The second photo was taken on athletics day (which I thought was held some time in October). The photo is of myself and Das (can't remember his first name) at the finishing line of 200Mtrs dash. Mr Johnson has stopwatch in hand and had a hard decision deciding who came first - in the end he decided that Das came first. Note the basketball court in the background - it was built by the boys at the time probably no more than a year or two before this photo.
The third photo is the result of the 200mtr dash. Das, myself and I do not remember the name of the boy who came third. School infirmary at the top of the photo. More following.
Best regards
David
BTW in 1968 I broke the school record for the Long Jump jumping 20ft and 4 inches. This record had remained unbroken since the 1930s. Surely it has been broken since 1968!
