TASK FOUR
Overview: "The Taming of the Shrew" is viewed in different light by different people.  Since the coming of Femism, this play has been criticized for being sexist and misogynistic.  As the director of the play it is your job to decide how this play will be present.  A crucial part of this play is Katherine's last speech.  In the past this scene has been played in different ways.   In one production the actress winked at the audience to show that she has not really been tamed, but was just playing along, while another actress portrayed Katherine as a repentant and changes wife.
YOUR TASK:
First, view a piece of Katherine's last speech by clicking on picture of the "Taming of the Shrew" film with Elizabeth Taylor.
Second, write a 250 to 500 word essay on how you have the actress playing Katherine act out that last speech.  Give reason why and use the rest of the story to back up your decision.  Feel free to use quotes to back up your decision.
E-mail me your essay by the due date.
Guidelines:
* Tell your audience what they need to know about Katherine.
* Discuss the factors that brought about her "change".
* Use specific, accurate, and relevant information from the play to support your decision.
* Use tone and appropriate level of language for an essay.
* Organize your ideas in a logical and coherent manner.
* Follow the conventions of standard English.
