Kansas Clan Home

History

Two old friends from Kansas started the clan early in the Age of Kings days, I'm guessing Nov. of 1998 or so. I was one, the other was KS_Eerok. It was my first online game, he had played some Age of Empires and a lot of Warcraft and Starcraft. Neither of us were particularly good at Kings (Eerok was very good at Starcraft), but we won some and decided to start a clan because people would argue about us being on the same team when we had higher ratings than the other two people in the room. We picked Kansas because that's where we were from and knew very little about clannishness anyway. KS rocked along for awhile with just Eerok and I, then about the time he started drifting away I recruited KS_The_Queen, and she brought a couple of her friends with her, KS_Crook, then KS_Shining_One and quite a bit later, KS_Smokey. KS_BleedingMe joined soon after Queen, he was from Kansas too and that made our connection obvious, then KS_WarMonger joined and we spent some time paying dues, winning some, losing more. We got better and start winning some against better opponents. Monger, Athena and I had a breakthrough game against the CAN clan with CAN_I_SEX_U and two other CANs and we were on our way. It wasn't that much later that we started playing against Rahl and the ME clan with some regularity. We sparred for some time, with ME winning almost every time that Rahl or Gabriel played (ME_Count_Rahl and ME_Archangel or Don_Gabriel then)but KS kept playing closer. The big day finally happened, we had a couple of ME vs. KS games with Rahl playing but with weak teammates and the KS team won both games. It was a turning point of sorts, KS got stronger, and I'm not sure what happened with ME clan, Rahl can help there, but within a few months KS pretty much absorbed the ME membership with Rahl, ME_IM_OK, ME_Skee, and Gabriel joining fairly closely in time. Big Ted wasn't in ME at that time, as I recall (PR I think), but did join KS fairly soon then too. I think this occured before Age of Conquerors came out.

Fairly early on KS had an alliance with MH clan because of some mutual friendships and we allowed join membership. MH_General became KS_General along with a few others who have since departed.

We also picked up General_2Pac, who wasn't in a clan, now KS_Benevolence, after we started winning against him, and Rahl also recruited some very good players as we went along. KS_Swiss joined after resigning from WH clan, and we got a few of the WH players, KS_Augustus (who still rules AoC) joined from UDE clan along with his cousin, KS_LUV, KS_Haws joined from PR clan and became a world class player and represtented the USA in some kind of world AoC tourney, KS_Kindred and Jones joined from IYI clan, and lots of other great players joined for a time close to the end of AoC, many from Storm clan. KS_Matix joined towards the end and did quite well in some big tournaments and still plays AoC also I think.

We've had lots of members over the years, 4 or so websites, and done well in many tourneys. The Kansas clan has been international with members from all over the world at various times, KS_Athena from Denmark, KS_Iwannhs from Greece, a member from New Zealand, and lots of Canadians and Americans. After AoC the switch to Mythology and Titans was a natural, though there is still a KS presence in AoC on the Zone.

Some of our other breakthrough team games, and there were more than I can relate here, came when Rahl and Gabe beat the Storm team on a highland map in a clan tourney, and when Rahl, Gabe and I beat RD_Champion, then the #1 player and two NOX teammates, both very good, in a team islands game. In the team islands game we lost the water, but Gabe snuck a transport over on Champion and while Champ was still winning the water Gabe built enough to do a great late flush on his town and take him out of the game. Gabe did something similar in the Storm game, he lost on water and but snuck some villagers over and was able to deny resources to Storm's best player with a great sneak attack late flush, and put him out of the game. I think it would be fun if some of the other old guys would post about some of those breakthrough games and what they remember about them.

I'm sure I left off a lot, but those are the bones of it.
