My travel to Yufuin and Beppu

I traveled to Yufuin and Beppu for two days in June of 2002. I have experienced something new.

-Day 1-
I took the limited express train "Yufuin no Mori" to Yufuin. That train consists of only reserved seats. There is a gallery, which displays several famous landscape scenes of Yufuin. The gallery is located in the middle of the train. The buffet, located next to the gallery, sells lunch boxes, soft drinks. You can buy draft beer, which is made in Yufuin. The train is a double-decker type, so you can see the scenic view from the front or rear of the train.

Yufuin no Mori

After I arrived in Yufuin, I rented a bicycle to go around the town. I visited a couple of famous tourist attraction places: Kinrin Lake and the Yufuin folk village. At the Lake, I stopped my bicycle and took a photo of the Lake with Mt.Yufu. I think the view of the greatest view in Yufuin.

Kinrin Lake

Later I visited Yufuin folk village and saw a lot of their hand-made products especially I was so impressed of by the bamboo baskets. You can even see their factory in production at the end of your tour. Note that, unfortunately, all the exhibition is in Japanese.

In the evening I took a bus to Beppu. From the bus, I was able to see the mountain range closely.

I stayed at "Kokage" inn , (Tel.0977-23-1753, Fax 0977-23-3895) which is located very close to Beppu station, so you can easily reach the inn. The way of how to getting there is: You walk down Ekimae(main) street, then you turn right the second corner. The Kokage inn provides: Japanese-style rooms. Each room has a private hot spring bath, a toilet, an air conditioner and a TV set. The price is 4,350 yen a night without a meal. (Note that you will be available to stay there with two meals (dinner and break fast) and you may pay more; please ask them when you are booking). Besides you can enjoy a hot spring bath on the first floor (till 11 pm).

Mt.Yufu

Luckily I could meet with a man from Belgium. He was there because he was going to watch the World cup game in Oita the next day.

The Kamenoi Bus

-Day 2-

The next day I visited Jigoku (Hells).

Kamado Hell

Sea Hell

Whitepond

Blood Hell

There are eight different hot springs, which present eight different kinds of hell. You must buy a round trip ticket. Or you could wait for a free one-way ticket after you die. In the afternoon the weather became rainy, but luckily I didn't get wet. I returned to Hakata at 8:15 pm on the limited express "Sonic Nichirin".

Note: The Kamenoi bus issues free bus passes for up to three days. You can also get Discounts at several attraction places with this bus pass.
