The USB drive that we currently have is a Lexar 512MB Flash memory USB key. You will need atleast one USB port (preferably USB 2.0) to transfer data to and from the USB drive. In a Microsoft Windows ® based machine the USB drive will be automatically detected. If you are connecting the drive to the machine for the first time, the OS will automatically install the drivers and prompt you when its safe to use the drive. The USB drive will be indicated as a Mass Storage Device drive if you double click on My Computer.
In case, the OS did the installation and everything went on fine and the drive does not show up in My Computer, you will have to add the drive manually. This happens when you have mapped network drives (e.g. your F:\ drive when you log on to the Novell Network in FRS) and the OS assigns a drive letter (e.g. F:\) which is already in use, to the USB drive. To add the drive manually follow the procedure described below:
Both the mapped network drives and the recently installed drive appear in My Computer.
Do not disconnect the USB drive without following the proper procedure as it can result in data loss or even damage to USB drive memory. The procedure is as follows:
