A Message from the President of the KSAA-IM Colorado Sub-region:

Aloha Colorado Kamehameha Alumni!

I hope all of you had a wonderfully relaxing summer! Is everyone ready to get pumped up for this upcoming year? This email is to update everyone on the upcoming events for this year.

Our first get together will be a Halloween Potluck Party. I would first like to throw it out to anyone who would like to host the event. If I don't hear back with any interest, then we will have it at my house. The potluck doesn't have to be at someone's house. It can also be held at a rec center or club house if someone has access to either. Of course, it would have to be at no cost since we don't have any funds. Please contact me if anyone is willing to host this event.

Since we're on the subject of funds, it is my plan to focus on fundraising this year. I am fortunate enough to be part of a wonderful group of hula dancers, and we were fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to dance in a Polynesian Festival. The community interest, excitement and participation leads me to believe that there is a market for hula. Therefore, my first thoughts for fundraising is to have at least one, if not more, hula shows. These shows will not be the tourist type, like the kind you would see at PCC or the Kodak Hula Show, but authentic kahiko and auwana hula. Besides the group I dance for, there is also a group in Fort Collins. Between the two groups, we can pull of a two hour show with an intermission. We also have a musician who I'm hoping I can convince to donate his time. I would like to use the intermission to give away door prizes and the like. So, for our Sub-region to pull this off I will need enormous amount of help. Those of you who are interested in working on a committee to help pull this off, please contact me as soon as possible, as I think we need to get started immediately. For those of you who live too far away, but would still like to help, please contact me because we can work with you over the phone and via email.

I also realize that Hawaii musicians are also very popular. I am planning on working with a group called NaMele to see about getting a few groups up here for a concert. I will keep everyone informed on my progress with this.

The last thing I would like to touch base with everyone on is College Homes Away from Home. I got a really great response from many of you, and I greatly appreciate that. I will be receiving an updated list of college students. Once that I am in receipt of this list, I will be sure to contact all of you again.

I hope to hear from all of you very soon! Mahalo for you kokua! Malama pono.

A hui hou,

Toni Kaui
