This is my first self portrait and used scratchboard paper and an old caligraphy pen to scratch. It was allowed in the assignment to trace the basic shapes and lines of our xeroxed photo reference to start. From there, we were supposed to use a technique of dotting to create shading and shape. But for me this merged into cross-thatching as patience fell and pressure to finish grew. This resulted in a impressed teacher, saying he has not seen cross-thatching done so well for this assignment before.
