VW Beach Buggy |

Just after I had paid off my loan for my bike I was desperate to get into debt again (yeah right!) I was looking for a new car and not just any car - I wanted either a custom, hotrod or kitcar. I've got to be honest and say that I was only looking at kits in passing as I wasn't sure that I could handle driving a car that anyone could build and I had the image of a lotus 7 rip off going around in my head and there are a lot of 7 rip offs. While looking through Kit Car and Which Kit I saw an advert for a VW beach buggy kit and sent off for information. When the leaflet turned up I instantly liked the look of the car but HATED the bright colours and small looking wheels! I also had a real problem with the seatbelts which should mount to the roll bar and it just looked naff. So being a bit of a goth and sad old metal freak I suddenly decided I was having one as long as I got it in a nice black!
The kit is a "JAS SPEEDKITS" kit and all in all it's a good kit. It's a lovely shaped buggy but it does have some problems, but they're not really worth talking about in any depth here as they are pretty minor. |

So here was my starting point - a 1973 Beetle chassis - it had new floors and all the rubbers and grommets were replaced and a 1200cc engine slapped and I do mean slapped into the back. |

The first thing that was done after the chassis was checked over was to test fit the body shell and make sure the dashboard was fitted correctly. |

This picture shows the test fitted bonnet and windscreen and if you look carefully you'll see the front bumper bars fitted - they are mild steel and were sprayed with metallic paint so up close they look quite nice. |
Here's the rear end of the test fitted shell and be glad you can really see the awful looking engine. Those wheels are the original Beetle wheels which I'm planning to use on my next offroad car. |

Hre the headlights have been mounted and I've also mounted the steering column and wheel which is good cos it was getting to be a pain rolling her into the garage every night without any steering. |

The seats are mounted the roll bars fitted and yup I've got indicators too of course with no wiring - none of it works which kind of defeats the point of fitting them. |
