| 1. C.S.A. Sgt. Richard Kirkland risked his life during the battle of Fredricks burg to carry water to dying Union Soldiers. 2.The Palmetto frond on South Carolina's flag was used as a symbol of defiance against the Union. The flag they use today is the same flag they hoisted up after taking down the U.S. flag.. 3.Slaves were not freed in Washington D.C, until April 1862 one year after the frist shot was fired at Ft. Sumter.. 4.Jim Lewis , a colored manand cook ,served general Stonewall Jackson and held his horse during his funeral . Stone wall's horse's name was Little Sorel. 5. Did you know that during the war prostitution was so popular with the Yankees that at one point there were more soldiers dieing of VD than Confederate Bullets. That says alot for the northerners..(Hookers Hookers) 6. In new york City ,during the American Revolution, there were as many slaves as in the whole state of Georiga.. 7. 400 slaves worked to build the U.S. Capitol and the White House in the 1790's.. The Government paid plantation owners 5 dollars per month per slave cheap labor was used to keep down wages for skilled workers. 8. Almost all of Lincoln's in-laws faught on the opposing side.. Hurrah!! 9.On September 9, 1863 Confederate Lt. William McEntire surrendered to Union forces at Cumberland Gap. On his death bed ,years later,he requested that his grandson 100 years to the date later stand at the pinnacle of the Gap and curse the Ynkees for five minutes. And so it was done on September 9, 1963.. 10. President Lincoln issued the Proclomation , but it only freed slaves in rebellious states. Slaves living under Union control were not freed until the 13th Amendment was changed in December of 1865.. 11. Robert E. Lee freed his slaves before the war started U.S, Grant did not free his slaves until well after the war had begun.. |
