1997 ****1/2 145 mins.
This film is much truer to Vladimir Nabokov's novel than Stanley Kubrick's 1962 film, but Kubrick's film is a Kubrick film, so it is better. Of course, this film is absolutely marvelous, as well. While Kubrick's film was more light-hearted, this film is dark and depressing, much like the novel. Each film has it's own appeal. Either one is a wonderful motion picture experience. Of course, Melanie Griffith is absolutely annoying and apalling as Charlotte Haze.
Rated R for sexual content and nudity.
