This first remake of the classic 1933 film has gotten such a bad reputation. I didn't think it was that terrible of a film. I liked the change in plot (the ship is going to the island in search of oil, rather than to make a film) and I thought the Oscar-winning special effects were pretty good. Truthfully, I think everyone who has given this film a bad review has only seen the original full screen version, which I'm sure looks terrible. This film looks absolutely amazing in its original 2.35:1 widescreen aspect ratio. Give this film a chance, and don't compare it to the original.
Rated PG for some language and sexual innuendo.
