1971 ***** 91 mins.
This is, without a doubt, one of the greatest (and oddest) love stories in the world. Bud Cort plays Harold, a troubled 20-year-old boy who has a fascination with death and suicide. Ruth Gordon plays Maude, a woman about to turn 80-years-old who is the most vivacious, lives-on-the-edge person one could ever meet. When these two meet, sparks fly, though not in the traditional sense. The story flows with magnificent ease to the moving tunes of Cat Stevens. This is a cult classic that should never, ever be forgotten.
