Finally, we are able to see the TRUE story of the inspiration for Psycho, The Silence of the Lambs, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. In all honesty, if this is the TRUE story, it bears much closer resemblance to the first two films rather than the last. Steve Railsback is completely believable in the title role. He seems just like a man whom you would never suspect to do such horrible things. Carrie Snodgress is even better, though, as his nagging mother, who, even after her death, plagues his mind and thoughts, telling him what to do. While the film has an almost amateurish feel to it, it is still gut-wrenchingly effective.
Not rated; contains disturbing violence and gore, language, and brief nudity.
