| Technology is beginning to play an increasingly important role in literature. For this assignment, you will be required to use technology to demonstrate your understanding of one of the required texts of this course. You have some flexibility and a number of options with this assignment. 1) Using the social networking site MySpace, create a user profile for one of the characters in one of our class texts. With this option, you must show a thorough understanding of the character and the text. On your page, you must fully complete the page with the character's personal data, song, several blogs that show knowledge of the text, and other attributes that can show that you really understand your character in the context of the story. For this, you must edit and adapt the page using either HTML coding or any number of layout generators. Layout generators can be found through a simple internet seacrh. What you do not want to do is simply fill in the blanks of the standard template that MySpace provides you with. Your design of the page and ability to use it to completely show that persona of the character you select is essential. In fact, you should take on the persona of the character as much as possible; this assignment is as much about an informed role-play than a utilization of technology. 2.1) Design an original website dedicated to one of the class texts. For this assignment, select one of our texts which interests you, and design a page to educate or inform others of the text. Your page will function as an online atlas of all the important elements of the literary work you select. Your page must convey a thorough understanding of the text including character dynamics, settings, plot devices, and purpose of the story. You will want to use pictures, maps, text, and links to other sites to fully inform the visitors of your site about the work you selected. Do not be concern with the complexity of your site, but rather focus on completely presenting all of the important aspects of the work that you choose in a highly creative way. Your site may be created with any number of webpage creators including Frontpage, Dreamweaver, or Geocites. You will need personal web space to post your page, so if you don't have that space, please feel free to ask me about this. Limited space is available through the college, and many ISP's offer it free of charge or for a small fee. You may pursue whatever option works best for you. 2.2) This option works as a combination of the the first and second idea. Instead of using MySpace as the media to communicate a personal site for a character from one the our texts, you will create a standard webpage. The requirements are the same as the first option, but you will be able to have complete freedom to customize your page. Be sure to include images, music, personal writings (blogs), and anything else that will portray the dynamics of your character. 3) Create a webquest to educate others about a text from our class. Webquests are webpages dedicated to creating an interactive learning experience. They offer a variety of options for providing student-centered discovery of a text or information. The following links will all help explain this growing online educational tool: Webquest: Concept to the Classroom Webquest Portal Best Webquests.com Your webquest should examine some critical aspect of the text. You may choose to focus on an issue raised by the text, a multicultural point of view the text presents, a social justice question that is or should be addressed by the text, or another option of your choice. Please talk to me about your topic before you proceed. * To gather ideas for you project, please feel free to visit the links above, or explore the links below to see how literature can be presented with technology.
