| Stalker's Prey X-Files Angst, Rated R, Mulder/Scully UST Takes Place Sixth Season sometime after Triangle The escalating pressures of an admirer force Mulder to seek help from Scully and Skinner. They become increasingly concerned as his pursuer insinuates herself into his life. Author Note: This is something pretty different for me. I was in the middle of reading John Douglas' latest book, 'Obsession', as groundwork for my novel 'Ascent to Hell', when I got the idea for this short story. So I took a quick break from 'Ascent' and wrote 'Prey' on a couple of very long plane rides. I encourage everyone to read Douglas' books. The reality that such monsters as he describes exist and are among us, masquerading as reasonably well-adapted, sociable individuals, is truly frightening. What his latest book demonstrates, however, is that sometimes we can act to prevent ourselves from becoming victims. He also outlines ways in which we as individuals and as a society can fight back against violent crime. |
