This lesson is fun and easy and a great way to discuss implied
texture.
Inform
students:
Implied
texture is the illusion of texture there is only the
appearance of texture and what you see does not feel like it
appears.
Materials:
White drawing paper
Crayons
Blue construction paper
glue
scissors
Each
student will use the side of a crayon to create a rubbing of the
bottom of his/her shoe onto the white drawing paper.
The REAL texture of the shoe sole has now become IMPLIED texture
on the paper.
The student will look at the rubbing of his/her shoe and imagine
what kind of fish he/she might see there. The pattern of the shoe
soles makes interesting "scales" for the fish.
Lines can be added (in various colours) to add to the
design.
Outline the shoe rubbing (with markers) and add on a
"fishy" tail. Add an eye, fins, gills, whatever it takes
to make this fish come to life!
Cut the fish out and paste it onto blue construction paper.
Using crayons, add seaweed, smaller fish, and other things one
might find in the ocean.
Voila'--FILET OF "SHOE" SOLE
