Scale: Enlarging an Image Using a Grid

This lesson may be highlighted and printed for use as a worksheet when dealing with scale of objects.  This lesson aligns with the objective:  Develops visual awareness and sensitivity to visual ordering in art and the environment.

Instructions for Enlarging with a Grid

Follow these steps:

 

  1. Pick an Image 

 

 

  1. Draw, in light pencil, a box around the area that you want to draw.

 

 

 

  1. Mark off every cm, starting from left (top and bottom of image) and then sides from the top down.

 

 

 

  1. Join the cm markings to create a grid � horizontal and vertical lines ALL PARALLEL. 

 

 

 

  1. On a large sheet of paper mark off every 4 cm or larger.  This will increase the size of your image.  You need to have the same number of squares as your original (across and down).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  1. Label as: 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  1.  Start drawing square by square!  To finish, colour or shade your image.
