Design
a House
This should be completed by groups of
two. Start the class
off with drawing up plans for the house or room from above.
(Blueprint style) Nothing as detailed as a blueprint,
however we did go in-depth into what we would have in our
dream house (or room). The possibilities for ideas are
endless. Have
students assume
they are rich and can have anything they want.
Here is a worksheet
I have my students do first.
Objective
- Provide opportunities for social interaction and
cooperation.
The
Materials
- Cardboard
box
- Plastic
and masking tape to cut and fold walls and rooms.
- If
you go to a carpet or wallpaper shop you can get sample books
filled with different tile and wallpaper samples, perfect for
the students to use in their projects
- Popsicle
sticks
- Hot
glue gun sticks
- Hot
glue guns (5 or 6)
- Different
color fabrics for curtains, bed sheets, furniture, etc.
- Paint
- White
glue.
- Collected
materials; stuff that can be used for something on a different
scale (Example: Small paper cups used for waste paper
baskets).
Once preparatory
drawings are completed have students start their room/house
design. They may
choose to do a complete house or a more detailed room design.
I use a rubric to grade this assignment that looks at their
prep work, their effort, their design and their overall final
product. Students
have really enjoyed this project when I have used it in class.
It is a great project to get students cooperating within
their groups.
