the unfortunate walk

Once upon a time there was a little girl named Betsy who always wore a red hooded cape.   She was not called Little Red Riding Hood because no one was stupid enough to think of that dumb of a nickname, but she was very well-known.   One day her family got news that Granny was ill and had to stay in bed.

"Wouldn't it be nice if you were to skip down to Granny's house with a basket of fresh homemade cookies?" Betsy's mother exclaimed.

"No," responded Betsy.

"Well, too bad.   I already made the cookies," her mother retorted as she handed Betsy her cape and basket of cookies and pushed her out of the house.   "And make sure not to wander off the path!" she called after Betsy's sulky retreating back.

It was a beautiful spring day and the flowers that grew off of the path were just shouting, "Pick me!"   Betsy was not one to be taken with talking flowers, but she was mad at her mother and feeling rebellious so she wandered over to the noisy bed of vegetation.

Someone was watching her in the shadows.   Pretty soon a Big Bad Wolf sauntered over to Betsy.

"So," he said, "where are you going with that basket of cookies, Betsy?"

Betsy cast him a wary look.   "How do you know my name?" she demanded.

The wolf glanced around shiftily.   "Oops."

"Oops what?"

"I've been, um, you know...stalking you."

"Oh.   Okay."

"Well," the wolf said, "no use in dilly-dallying.   Let's get straight to business."

And he ate her all up.   Plus the cookies.   Then he went to Granny's house and ate her because obviously he knew that Betsy was going to see her and that she was sick because he was a stalker.

The End
