Vertti Eemeli Joonatan
born Nov 6th 1993
died May 31st 1995

It was exceptionally beautiful, sunny evening in May, 1995. My oldest son, Vili was sleeping, because he had an ear-infection and wasn't feeling very well. My husband had just arrived from work and unpacked the shopping bag to the fridge. I was preparing evening meal my back turned to the living-room, where our 18 months old son Vertti was playing. The kitchen and the living room are separated only with a bar-table, so actually they are the same room. Suddenly there was a crash and I thought that Vertti had dropped some videotapes (it sounded like that -he had done it many times before) The sound wasn't that loud at all. I turned around and saw Vertti lying still on the floor with a TV right over his face. He didn't move at all...My hands start shaking as I write this...

My husband lifted the TV off and called the ambulance. I rushed to the bathroom carrying Vertti and put his head under cold water, because he had a nasty wound on his forehead. My husband  put a quilt on the floor and started giving the mouth-to-mouth, because Vertti didn't breathe at all.
I went outside to guide the ambulance. It seemed to take forever to arrive. My husband left to the hospital in the ambulance and I stayed at home with Vili and Veera.
It seemed like hours before my husband called me and said that there was nothing that could be done...Vertti would die in a few hours. He took me to see Vertti for the last time and I was given diapam over and over again until I nearly fell asleep. There was no place I could touch Vertti. He was connected to a bunch of tubes, and there was nothing that I could do for my baby...It was like the end of my world.

Vertti was a cute, lively little boy with blue eyes and blond, curly hair. He still wore diapers and a pacifier. My heart cries fo my baby (God knows how much I have cried!) Imagine, just a second and you never see your child smile again... Vertti's death got me closer to God. Only He can take care of my baby now that I can't!
