How I learned about block scheduling:
This semester I observed in the Gettysburg Area Middle School, which uses
block scheduling for its students. I saw how the classes worked,
and what could be accomplished in 90 minutes of class time. I also
saw many things that could be done wrong in a 90-minute period. I
had the opportunity to talk to teachers that worked under the block scheduling,
and they were fans of it. They said that they had more time to get
involved with the subject. They found it easier to only have to prepare
for 3 classes a day, instead of 6. Also, they saw that it was better
for the students to only have to prepare for 3 classes a day, because then
they could focus better on what they had to do.
Also this semester I had to opportunity to learn a little bit more about
the different types of block scheduling from a group presentation in my
Social Foundations of Education class. I realized that there were
many types of block scheduling.
