A few meets RACE competes in have time standards or qualification (or qual) times a swimmer must achieve before entering that particular meet. Each event has a different qual time, but after making the qual for one event a swimmmer might be eligable to swim other events (depending on the rules of the meet). The name of the meet is listed on top of the table (for more information about the meet just click here). The events are listed down the center and women's qual times are listed down the left and men's are listed down the right. (LCM)Long Course Meters times are listed farthest away from the event, (SCM) Short Course meters are in the middle, and (SCY) Short Course Yards are listed closest to the event. Silver State Meets
Silver State is a meet for swimmers who have not qualified for the State meet. Here swimmers try to achieve their State cuts or best times. It is a great opportunity for beginning swimmers or swimmers who have just moved up (into a new age group and haven't achieved a new state cut) a chance to have a last meet for the season. There is not a state meet for 15 and over in the spring, so senior swimmers may participate in Silver State instead. A swimmer may participate in 3 events and 1 relay per day.
State Meets
State takes place once per season for 14 and unders. For 15 and overs state is only once a year in the summer (long course season). Qual times for state are more difficult than Silver State making it a faster meet. A swimmer may participate in 3 events and 1 relay per day. A swimmer may only participate in events which they have qualified in.
Zones Meets
Zones is in the summer and is always long course. The team is chosen (or a swimmer may ask to participate), but to be able to attend a swimmer must have a Zone cut (preferably more than one). If a swimmer has participated in an individual event at the Junior Championships (or a meet with as fast or faster qual times)within eighteen months of Zones they may not participate. Swimmers may, however, participate after a Sectionals meet (because the qual times are slower than the qual times of the Junior Championships. If a swimmmer achieves a Senior National cut they are not eligible to participate in Zones.
Sectionals
Sectionals is more of a team oriented meet. If a team makes a relay cut they are allowed to bring swimmers for that relay and each swimmer can also participate in two time trials (between prelims and finals). If a swimmer makes one Sectional cut they may participate in that event and two other events (if they have those B (or soft) cuts). A swimmer cannot participate in more than four events unless they have Sectional cuts in all of them (if a swimmer has five or six Sectional cuts they may swim 5 events). Six individual events is the maximum number.
US Open
This meet is an international meet and some of the world's best swimmers participate. If a swimmer has one Open cut they may swim in one other event that they have a B cut in and swim in two time trials. Many teams from around the world come to this meet and make it one of the fastest and most culurally rich meets offered in the US.
Senior Nationals
One of the fastest meets every year. The best swimmers in America compete to get a national title, which is a HUGE swimming accomplishment. The cut times are the hardest (with the exception of Olympic Trials and A cuts for NCAA Division 1 (college meet) which is only held every four years) and America's best swimmers participate. Like the US Open, if a swimmer has one Senior cut they may swim an additional B cut and two time trials.
