What do I know? After more than ten years of no communications, I received a birthday card from him.  It was my my 20th birthday. I was really surprised because inside the card, it said he loves me.  At this time, he was already in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia working as an overseas filipino worker and I was in Hawaii.  Of course, as a courtesy, I wrote him back and said thank you.  He wrote me back again and inserted a picture of him.  He still look good on his pictures.  We constantly writing to each other for so many months.  I kind of made a plan with him to have a vacation on December of 1992.  Unfortunately, I couldn't afford it.  And those letters of his stopped coming.  My letter came back to me also.  I think I had an incorrect address.

I found out later that he did go home to the Philippines and actually went out with two different women.  Luckily, I didn't go on vacation with him or I could be one of his girls.  That would have been not good for me and him.  Anyway, I was involved with another guy during those days that's why he was a less priority for me.  I was going out with this guy for more than a year until we found out we weren't really meant for each other.
Because I was mending a broken heart, I decided to go to the Philippines, on May 1993 for two months.  There I found out from Nanette that Edil was on vacation from Saudi Arabia for 45 days.  He just left ending of January 1992.  Dang, I miss him by a few months.  For two months, all I did was stay with my friends and my relatives.  I went back to Hawaii on July of 1993.

I got the right address of Edil and I sent him pictures of me and Nanette.  Because I didn't know how to start my letter to him, I went back to read his previous letters.  I didn't get the idea back then that he had feelings for me.  I guess because I was so involved with someone else.  He wrote me back and on his letter to me, he was very happy that I wrote and why the sudden change.  I told him in my letter that I broke up with my boyfriend.  I gave him the idea to court me again, I guess. Letters started coming again and this time it's not only letters but he started calling me long distance almost everyday.  As strange as it may sound, I fell for him because of his sweet talks and humor on the phone.  I started calling him too and God imagine the phone bills both he had and mine.  It was a very difficult relationship because we were both on different side of the world.  He was in the middle east and I was in the middle of the pacific ocean. I came to a point where my mother doesn't see the phone bill anymore because I was hiding it from her.  One time our phone was disconnected without my mother knowing it because I wasn't able to pay the bill.  That went out for more than three years.
On February of 1995, Edil and I decided to meet in the Philippines and to celebrate his 25th birthday together.  That was our first meeting together after seven years.  I was kind of shy when he wanted to hold my hands but for crying out loud, he is my boyfriend thru the phone.  He introduce me to all his family, friends, and relatives.  They were so many of them, I didn't know how he was related to them.  We were together for a month and each day we were together.  I actually spent more time with him than my relatives in Mantanas.  He wanted us to be married then but we couldn't get married secretly.  His Uncle judge won't let us get married because according to the Philippine law, I need a parental consent if I am under 25.  So we didn't get married.  He was very disappointed.  For me, it was okay because back then I wasn't sure if I was ready to get married but I know I love him.  I went back to Hawaii after a month and he stayed for another two weeks until he also went back to Dhahran.
Eventhough we were thousands of  miles and two oceans apart, our relationship and love for each other are what made us stronger.  We didn't care about those hundreds of dollars of phone bills every month as long as we get to talk and know we are missing each other and can't wait to see each other once again.

On
October of 1996, we decidec to go home to the Philippines again.  But before we got there, we already plan to get married.  He had it all plan.  I didn't spend a thing for our small wedding.  He and his family made all the arrangements.  All I did was there on the day we got married.  On October 20, 1996, we finally tied the knot.  Yeyyyy!!!!!

Prior to our vacation and wedding, I petitioned him as a fiance but the papers took too long to process, that's why we decided to just go home and get married so he can process his papers in Manila.  Little did we know, it's going to conflict with my petition for him as my spouse.  It took longer for him to wait to get his US visa again.  It was supposed to be just nine to a year process.

After we got married, I did let him go back to Saudi Arabia so he stayed in the Philippines for 14 months.  Then finally, on December of 1997, he came to America.   It was a long journey for us and it was worth waiting and fighting for.  We have been married for more than five years and been living together for more than four years.  We are still very happy being married together and still waiting for that baby to come.  I hope God will give us that baby we've been waiting for very soon.
